Gary Michael (Mike) McDonald, 67, passed away on June 14, 2022, at his home in Amarillo, Texas, where he lived with his nephew Jason McDonald and his family. He was born to William Robert (Bob) and Huldah McDonald in LaJunta, Colorado on November 18th, 1954. He married Dora Mae Fulton on October 6, 1973.
He joined the U.S. Navy in April of 1974 and retired from the Navy in April of 1994. Following his retirement from the Navy he moved to Amarillo, Texas and worked at the Arbors until he retired in March 2022. Mike was very proud of his military service and loved his work family at the Arbors.
He is survived by his three children, Michael William McDonald, Candy Louise (Jeff) Brooks, and Raymond Eugene McDonald; five grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, Duane, James, and Cheyenne; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; three sisters, Betty Hobbick, Margaret (Paul) Hogue and Lynn Higashimura; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents; eight brothers, William ‘Bill”, Robert “Bobby”, LeRoy “Butch”, Harold, Raymond, Darrell, Russell “Russ” and James; two sisters, Brenda Highfield and Sharon Wallace.
Graveside memorial service will be Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Lyon National Cemetery with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8.
