John G. Reed

John G. Reed, 48, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2022, at his La Junta home. He was born on November 3, 1973, in La Junta to Roy & Kathy (Allsworth) Reed.

John graduated from La Junta High School in 1992. After graduating high school, he began working for DeBourgh Mfg. as an assembly technician kick starting a 30-year career with the company. Eventually taking over as Production Manager.

John enjoyed spending his time with family and friends doing the things he loved most. John spent much of his free time cutting down trees and splitting wood with his kids and his friends. If you knew John, you knew that he loved his chainsaws. John recently fulfilled a lifelong goal of purchasing a sawmill to cut lumber for various projects. Every year John and his kids would take road trips traveling the country. In the summer months John and his kids spent many weekends camping and boating. John recently began his newest hobby of beekeeping, purchasing a hive and picking the brains of local experts. He was never short on hobbies or projects.

He is survived by his sons, Josh Reed and Mark Reed of La Junta; daughter, Katelin Reed of La Junta; brothers, Rick Reed of Pueblo West; Gary (Robin) Reed of Rocky Ford; mother, Kathy Reed of La Junta and numerous friends and family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Reed; father, Roy Reed; maternal grandparents, Ross (Hattie) Allsworth; paternal grandparents, George (Mary) Reed.

Graveside services will be Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Marty Lee of the United Methodist Church in Rocky Ford officiating.
