Lois Carol Roe
July 30, 1932 – April 18, 2023
Lois Carol Roe, 90, of Rocky Ford, Colorado, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at the Bent County Health Care Center in Las Animas, Colorado surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born, Saturday, July 30, 1932 in Sciota, Illinois to Marvin & Grace (Hayes) Ambrosius.
Lois spent most of her early childhood on the family farm before moving to Colorado at the age of11. She attended school in Canon City and later moved to Pueblo where she met her husband Alfred Roe. They were married April 19, 1959 in Rocky Ford. Together they raised three children, James, Valerie and Michelle. Lois did not have a career outside the home, as her passion and career was her children. She was involved as a set mother for local square dancing, helped with the 4-H programs, was actively involved in the school classrooms, and any other activities her children were a part of.
Lois became interested in cake decorating and took a class to learn more techniques. She baked numerous wedding, birthday and anniversary cakes and refused to take any money for her hard work. Lois and Al loved to camp and go fishing. They would spend several weeks out of the summer camping and traveling to Oregon, Wyoming, California, and other states. She loved when her Oregon and Illinois families would come for a visit. She would cook enough for an army and loved every minute of it. Everyone else did as well because she was an amazing cook.
Aside from her passion for raising her children, came her passion for animals, especially “doggies” as she would call them. She shared her love of animals with Al. They were known to take in unwanted strays and make them part of the family. People in the area knew Lois as the “blonde beauty” with the beehive hairdo who drove the yellow Ford Mustang convertible and had a contagious smile. Later in her life she took a new role as grandma and she took this role very seriously. She became an encourager to her grandchildren as she was for her own children. Lois left a legacy of love for four generations. All of them loved Grandma Lois.
