Rupert Tafoya, 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at his La Junta home.
He was born to Jose Pilar & Margarita (Aragon) Tafoya in San Isidro, New Mexico on November 26, 1922. He married Cecilia Aragon on July 11, 1947.
Rupert served in the Army during WWII. He also worked for ATSF from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. He was a beloved father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cecilia of the La Junta home; daughters, Tillie (John) Bustos of Monrovia, CA; Isabel (Bob) Apodaca of La Junta; Margaret (Willie) Salazar of Raton, New Mexico; daughter-in-law, Mary Dolores Tafoya of Pueblo, CO; brother-in-law, Gregorio (Lolo) Aragon of La Junta; sister, Fedelina (Cipirano) Gonzales of Dacona, CO; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
Rupert was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Pilar & Margarita Tafoya; son, Charlie Tafoya; grandson, Michael Salazar; two brothers & two sisters.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, September 24, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday, September 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
