Sharon Irene Wallace

June 11, 1953 — April 3, 2021

Sharon Irene (McDonald) Wallace, 67 passed away on April 3, 2021 at her La Junta home. She was born on June 11, 1953, she was the 9th of 14 children born to William Robert “Bob” & Huldah Irene (Wright) McDonald in La Junta.

She studied nursing at Otero Junior College prior to her marriage to Gary Wallace of Cheraw, but instead made motherhood and the family farm a priority; she however got her Associate of Farm Ranch Management years later, when her oldest two girls were starting their degrees.

She was a dedicated mother to her girls, Shawna (Wallace) Valdez, Rochelle “Chellie” Wallace and Jessica (Gasser) King, supporting them at their school activities, 4-H, Tiger Shark Swim Club, Rodeos, Fair Royalty events and more. Her love and dedication to children may have started with her girls, but it stretched far beyond as she continued her involvement with various activities in the community that focused on the youth throughout her life including organizing youth bowling leagues, serving as advisor/coach to the Cheraw Middle School Cheerleaders and Pep Squad and serving as 4-H Leader to Cheraw Community 4-H Club. She decided to “retire” from her 4-H service after 27 years. A person of strong faith, she was also a proud member of the Cheraw United Methodist Church her entire adult life. She was also a long-standing member of the Cattlewoman’s Association.

In addition to her girls, she is survived by sisters, Lynn Higashimura, Betty Hobbick, and Margaret Hogue and her brother Michael McDonald, as well as over 25 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She was also a VERY proud grandma to Baylee, Cheston, Cassidy, Katie, Cody, Megan and any international student Chellie brought through her door.

As per Sharon’s request cremation has taken place no services at this time.
