Shirley Ann Leyba, 76, passed away on February 7, 2021 at her La Junta home. She was born on December 13, 1944 in Denver to Phillip & Sadie Gonzales.
Shirley worked as a cook and bus aide for the East Otero School District and a carhop for A&W. She loved her family and she was their #1 cheerleader when it came to them playing sports either her children or grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Herman John (Laurie) Leyba, Emily (Jose) Guerrero, Nick (Barbara) Leyba and Cindy Leyba all of La Junta; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; special friend whom she loved dearly, Joe Medina. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herman Leyba; two sisters and four brothers.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Victor Raj officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
