Albert Cordova

June 18, 1929 — October 25, 2014

Albert Cordova, 85 of La Junta, died unexpectedly on October 25, 2014, while on a trip with his family. Mr. Cordova died of natural causes.


Pallbearers will be Noah Cordova, Steven Cordova, Richard Cordova, Orlando Cordova, Henry Salazar and Rudy Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers are Trevor Pruitt and Miranda Pruitt.


Mr. Cordova was born June 18, 1929, in Sopris, CO, the son of Esequiel and Fidelia Gonzales Cordova. In 1958 he married Viola Leyba. Albert worked 22 combined campaigns for National Sugar Company, Holly Sugar, and American Crystal Sugar companies in the area, and provided years of support for Hiraki Farms, Montini Cattle Company and Malott Farms.


Albert enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes such as gardening, reading his Bible, bingo, watching wrestling, fishing, Cripple Creek, raising small livestock, family vacations, weekly family card games, making homemade wine, and spending time with his family.


He is survived by his loving wife, Viola, of 56 years; daughters, Lucille Cordova (Alex Lovato) of La Junta, Betty (Lance) Ortega of Colorado Springs; sons, Danny (Mellissa) Cordova of Pueblo West, Samuel Cordova of La Junta; daughter, Debbie Pruitt of Pueblo West. Survived by five grandchildren, Vanessa (Rudy) Martinez, Miranda and Trevor Pruitt and Noah and Cameryn Cordova; and two great-granddaughters, Brianna and KayLyn Martinez. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Ernest Cordova, Ermelinda Rodaway, Aurelia (Manuel) Romero, Mary Ann (Edward) Jaure, Augustine (Amalia) Cordova, Virginia (Ben) Martinez, Gilbert (Catherine) Cordova and an Aunt Mary Eva Cordova; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Esequiel and Fidelia Cordova, sister Stella Salazar, daughter Lorraine Cordova, and granddaughter Ceara Marie Ortega.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. and the funeral mass will be Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
