Albert L. Salas

Albert Salas passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at his home in La Junta, CO surrounded by his family. He was born November 6, 1926 in Kim, CO to Ruben and Barbara (Maes) Salas. He attended school in Kim, CO. Albert was drafted into the United States Army in 1946, he was awarded a World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return from the war he married Mary E. Roybal in 1947.

Albert operated a grocery store/meat market for several decades in La Junta. He was known to many as the "Carnicero" (Butcher). Upon his retirement from the Meat Market, he moved to Kim, CO to help his parents on the family ranch.

Albert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He loved to play poker, and was always excited to watch the Denver Broncos.

He was a member of the La Junta Catholic Parish.

Survived by his daughters, Elaine Salas of Canon City, CO, Veronica (Phil) Padilla of Tempe, AZ.; Daughter-in-law, Diana Salas of La Junta, CO; sister, Cecilia Moody of Pueblo CO; grandchildren, Renea (Erik) Keahey, Michelle (Jim) Garner, Becky Salas (Jon McCall), and Stacy Salas all of La Junta, Phillip and Steven Padilla of Tempe, AZ and Mary Paolino of Canon City, nine great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

Proceeded in death by parents, Ruben and Barbara Salas, son, Rudy Salas, brother, Alfred Salas, grandson, Eric Mestas, son-in-law, Leonard Mestas.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Monday, September 19, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating.
