A.J. Quick

Alex James “A.J.” Quick, 34, of La Junta, passed away on January 19, 2025 at Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He was born on November 20, 1990 at Ft. Carson, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Todd and Robbie (Pryor) Quick. 

A.J. is survived by his wife, Mariah Quick of the La Junta home; children, Maisen, Lexi and Aiden Quick of La Junta; parents, Todd & Robbie Quick of La Junta; sister, Brandie (John) McMillan of Pueblo, Colorado; sister-in-law, Koryn Condit of La Junta; mother & father-in-law, Becky Blecha and William Blecha; aunts and uncles, Chris (Aaron) Pryor; J.J. (Bobbi) Quick; as well as numerous other aunts and uncles; grandparents, Tom (Janis) Pryor of Las Animas, Colorado; nephews, Malaki Rael and Landen Szmutko; cousins, Cooper Pryor, Madison (Casey Weber) Pryor, Lilly Weber, Desiree McClain as well as numerous other cousins and countless close friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and great-grandmother “Gramee”. 

AJ had a rare gift for connecting with others. His kindness was a beacon of light to all who knew him, and he never hesitated to lend a hand or offer a smile when someone needed it most. 

He had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours in the wild. When he wasn’t out, he was constantly talking about hunting and his love for guns, Pokemon cards, motorbikes, softball, and fishing.  

Above all, AJ loved his family fiercely. His wife and children were the center of his world. His greatest joy came from watching his children grow, learn, and thrive. Whether cheering from the sidelines, coaching their teams, teaching them how to shoot guns, or just going on amazing family vacations and playing board games, AJ’s dedication to his family was unwavering.  

A lifelong sports enthusiast, AJ found joy in coaching young athletes and helping them grow, not only as players but as people. His passion for softball, baseball, and watching hockey was unmatched, and he was always the loudest cheerleader with his love for the sport shining through.  

AJ’s warmth, humor, and selflessness will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a family and community that will forever be touched by his generosity and spirit.  

A message to our beloved Daddy, 

We hope you’re up there in heaven, tracking the biggest bucks and bulls and calling in coyotes like a pro. We can just picture you sitting in the grass by a perfect tree, no wind, no waiting- just you and the hunt. No matter what we decide to do, we know that you’ll be watching us from the sideline saying, “You got this. Just have fun.” Make sure to save a spot for us in those heavenly woods someday. Also, save us a seat at the card table because we know you and Gramee are up there playing right now. Until then, keep doing what you love in heaven. You weren’t only our Daddy. You were our hero and our best friend. We love you Daddy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 1:00p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. A private family service will be held at a later date.
