Alfred E. O'Canas

April 27, 1949 — September 4, 2015

Alfred Eugene “Pudgy” O’Canas, 66, passed away at his La Junta home on September 4, 2015. He was born on April 27, 1949 to Ben T. & Rebecca (Madrid) O’Canas in La Junta.


Pudgy graduated from La Junta High School class of 1969. After high school he joined the United States Army. He worked for Dana Corp for 22 years and the Pueblo Depot. He enjoyed spending his afternoons at the La Junta Senior Center playing pool and cards. Every morning he went and had coffee with buddies. Pudgy was a dedicated Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies Fan. He loved watching high school sports, softball and his grandkids play sports.


He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vicky of the La Junta home; daughters, Alicia O’Canas and Allison O’Canas both of La Junta; grandson, Erik O’Canas; granddaughter, Justine O’Canas; sibling, Florence Reyes of Pueblo; Leo O’Canas of Carrollton, TX; Lydia Gonzales of Phoenix, AZ; Teresa Dickey of Prescott, AZ; Albert (Nelda) O’Canas of Dallas, TX; Maximiliano O’Canas of Mesa, AZ; Peggy (Terry) Masias of Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Johnny O’Canas and sister, Dela Sena.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.



A Memorial Mass will be Thursday, September 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
