Alice Edith (Bunting) Unwin, 84, of Pritchett, Colorado passed away on March 22, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was born May 25, 1928 to Fred and Drusilla Bunting at the family residence at Utleyville Colorado. Alice and her brother Arthur grew up during the hard times but they enjoyed playing with their cousins David, Loyd, Lee, Archie and Charlotte which didn't live far from them. They also enjoyed all of the other neighbor's kids that lived in the area. Alice attended the Sunderland School till the Eighth grade and then she went to Pritchett high school and graduated in 1946. Alice and Jean Loges lived in a Cabin Camps for one year while they attended Pritchett School. While at Pritchett she lived with the Deeds family and helped at the mercantile store when she was not in school. Alice also worked for Clyde McVey in his mercantile store for a short period of time. In the Fall of 1948, Alice attended the Brown Business College in La Junta Colorado. This was a 3 month college courses in business.
Alice met Harvey Rogers Unwin (who did not live far from the Bunting residence), Harvey was home from serving in the military. Harvey and Alice were married January 28, 1949 at Raton New Mexico. A good friend of Harvey's (Perry Stokes) flew them in a car to Raton, as Mom recalls the car did not touch the ground very much. To this union there were five children born; Harvey Arthur, James Frederick, Alice Elaine, Harold Raymond, and Darla Marie.
Alice was involved in several activities; Harvey and Alice were 4-H leaders for the Sparkle Plenty 4-H, she was a member of the Rainbow Sewing Club, she served as a board of director on the Kim Grazing Association, she was on the scholarship committee for the Pritchett High School Alumni, she also enjoyed the activities that was happening at the schools and the activities that the grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey R. Unwin in 1976, her parents Fred and Drusilla Bunting, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harve and Lillie Mae Unwin, and son-in-law, Jerry Langston.
She leaves to mourn; son, Harvey Arthur (Kathy) Unwin; son, James F. (Audrey) Unwin; daughter, A. Elaine (Wilse) Street; son, Harold R.(Peg) Unwin and daughter, Darla M. Langston; her brother, Arthur and Margaret Fay Bunting.
12 grandchildren, Patti and Greg Eastman, Kim and Chris Gillispie, Wendy and Butch Watson, Todd and Gina Unwin, Raymond and Lauren Unwin, Henry Unwin, Wiliania Street, Justin Street, Chrissy Rosas, Shane and Erin Unwin, Roger Unwin, LaDonna and Jason Stein. 12 great-grandchildren; Garren and Grace Eastman, Shelby Gillispie, Brody and Addison Watson, Wilder and Sorrel Unwin, Jacob and Olivia Unwin, Charlie Marie and Cameron Rosas, and Faelyn Hearn; five Nephews, two niece's and numerous great-nephews, great-nieces and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 29, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kim School Gymnasium with Reverend Gregg Brown and Maynard Bowen officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kim Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 137, Kim, CO, 81049 or to the Arkansas Valley Hospice Assoc., P.O. Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
