Alice Rae Toppin

Alice Rae Toppin, 79, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Blueberry Hill Nursing Home in Beverly, MA after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born on October 1, 1936 to Raymond C. and Louise D. (Niemeier) Lemmon in Cambridge, Nebraska. Alice was one of five children born to Raymond and Louise.
 
She attended elementary schools in Nebraska before her family moved to Ft. Collins Colorado, where she graduated from Poudre High School in 1955.
Alice married Glenn E. Toppin on May 19, 1957 in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Shortly after their marriage the newlyweds relocated to La Junta, Colorado where her husband had taken a position with the Colorado State Patrol.
 
Alice had many interests, she served as President of Columbian School PTA, was involved in her church, Trinity Lutheran, but is most remembered in the La Junta Community serving customers at Glenn's Service that she and her husband owned and operated in North La Junta for more than 20 years. Alice was an avid football fan, and loved watching the Denver Broncos and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
 
Alice is survived by her two children, Randel S. (Jacqueline) Toppin of Anchorage, AK and Carol L. (Keith) Read of Beverly, MA; sisters, Donna Lewis of Denver, CO and Rosalie Critchley of Napa, CA; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Glenn E. Toppin, and brothers, James and Harry Lemmon.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her honor direct or through the funeral home.

A Funeral service will be Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Miller of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
