Alvin Eugene Bender, 87, of La Junta passed away on September 29, 2022, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 4, 1934, in La Junta to Emanuel & Ollie (Romans) Bender.
Alvin was a member of his High School Championship Football Team. He met Mary Dona Fulbright after his service in the Navy and they were married June 29, 1957. He lived in La Junta his entire life. He wore many different hats while the couple began a family of 4 children. His love of the outdoors drew him to farming. He loved all the high school sporting events and rodeo's his kids participated in. He loved camping and fishing with his multiple best friends in the nearby State Parks. His friendships continued long after they aged out of their boats. Alvin's hobbies included woodworking, welding, reading and never missed coffee club. He finally succumbed to his illnesses and was surrounded by his entire family at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dona of the La Junta home; children, Ross (Janette) Bender of La Junta; Amy (Burt) Knight of Arvada; Jay (Kathy) Bender of La Junta; Boyd (Tonya) Bender of Las Animas; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Loleta “Leta” Shade of Pueblo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Norton Bender.
As per Alvin’s request cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
