Angela Bratun

August 8, 1920 — January 13, 2016

Angela Bratun, 95, passed into the
arms of the Lord on January
13, 2016. Angela was known and loved by family and friends as
Angie. She was born on August 8, 1920,
in Leadville, Colorado, the daughter of Frank and Angela
Tarchek, who emigrated to the U.S.
from Yugoslavia.
She married the late Joe Bratun in 1936, and they lived together in Grand Junction before
moving to the Pueblo
area, where they spent most of their years on their small farm near Vineland, Colorado.
Angie was a full-time mom and
homemaker, who also worked with Joe in operating a small farm and repair shop.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, and dancing, especially polkas. She was a
terrific cook, with a number of mouth-watering Slovenian specialties, like
walnut potica, that she handed down to her family. Angie had a wonderful sense
of humor and special way of turning a phrase that will live on with all of us
who delighted in them. Her tremendous resilience and courage in the face of
adversity was reflected throughout her life. She will always be an inspiration
and now, our guardian angel.
She is survived by her three
children, Joseph (Jane) Bratun of San Jose, CA, Beverly Atkinson of La Junta,
CO; and Shirley Jane (Steve) Wilson of Aptos, CA. She is also survived by Beverly's three children
and their families, Vicki Powell and her children, Cameron (Tracy) Salzbrenner and Chelsea Powell, Monty
(Beverly)
Atkinson and their children Ryder and Tayten, and Dale (Julie) Atkinson and
their son, Chase.
For the past two years, Angie
lived at Crowley County Nursing
Center in Ordway, where
she received excellent care and made new friends. She enjoyed her local family
who also cared for her, especially during holidays and special occasions. Angie
also enjoyed spending time with Beverly
every week, looking forward to fresh flowers and treats that brought cheer to
everyone. Shirley Jane and Steve stayed in touch from California, with daily phone calls and
regular visits that helped overcome the distance. A special surprise this past
year was a visit from Joe's wife, Jane, who took time out from caring for Joe,
to spend time with Angie.
Mom's love for us was constant
throughout our lives, and the values she taught will live on. A devout
Catholic, Angie was an active member of St. Mary's Parish in Pueblo for many years before moving to La
Junta. She joined Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in La Junta, and then St.
Peter's in Rocky Ford, after moving to Ordway. She looked forward to weekly
visits from Bernadette and Abigail Gump, who spent time with her in prayers and
communion, as well as visits from Father Paul. Those wishing to make a
contribution in her memory are asked to make a donation for mass in Angie's
name at any of these parishes.
