Ann Elizabeth (McEathron) Kuebbeler, 78 passed away on September 22, 2017 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta. She was born in Appleton, WI on July 20, 1939, to Carroll and Lucy (Lewis) McEathron. As a student, Ann was active in music, playing the flute throughout junior high and high school. She was very active in Girl Scouts. With her parents as Girl Scout sponsors, she went to scout camp annually and eventually led canoe trips from camp for the younger girls. Also in high school, she was active in newspaper and yearbook, band and orchestra, Student Council, pep club, and French and Latin Clubs. She was a good student besides.
She matriculated to College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and graduated in 1961. She married David Kuebbeler on June 24, 1961, in Appleton, WI, and moved to Toledo, Ohio. Though she wanted to be a librarian, she took a job instead teaching junior high school social studies while she began working on a degree in library science. That year, the high school librarian was pulled from her position to order books for the two new high schools in Toledo, so Ann took over those responsibilities at the high school in the spring. She served at the Morrison R. Waite High School for a total of 8 years before she and David moved to La Junta, Colorado.
When the job opened in 1969, she took the position of librarian at La Junta High School, where she worked until her retirement in 1994. While at the high school, she was pep club sponsor, Hi Teens sponsor and cheerleading coach. She served as class sponsor at various times. At the district level, she served on the Steering (curriculum) and Accountability Committees. She participated in the La Junta Education Association.
Ann gladly volunteered, when a group from the League of Women Voters was asked to take over leadership of the local community concert association. She chaired the Membership Committee for over 25 years. She also served on the Library Board since 1993, including the period of time when the new Woodruff Memorial Library.
After retirement from the high school, Ann went to work for the Arkansas Valley Regional Library Service System in Pueblo. She assisted various local schools as a consultant.
Ann served two three-year terms at the First Presbyterian Church of La Junta as an elder. She chaired a pastoral search committee. She oversaw the Church Library for many years. Ann sang in the Chancel Choir, chaired the Worship Committee, and was otherwise active in church all of her life. Her faith in God was a source of comfort and strength to her throughout her life and particularly during the past several years of illness.
Ann was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Phi Chapter, and PEO, Chapter GM.
She was an avid card player. She enjoyed bridge and solitaire, as well as puzzles, bird watching, reading, and flowers especially roses. Ann was a true music lover. She and David held season ticket holders for Colorado Springs Philharmonic for many years.
One of Ann’s great joys was travel. She visited Germany (on several occasions), as well as England, Scotland, France, and Norway. She took cruises to Alaska and the Galapagos Islands; she sailed on a tall ship out of Maine.
Ann and Dave were dear friends to Cathy Bradshaw and “foster” grandparents to Audrey, Rachel, and Caryn.
Ann is survived by husband David of the La Junta home; brother Jim McEathron, nephews Scott and Mark McEathron, their wives and children; brother-in-law Philip (Judy) Kuebbeler, nephews William and Robert, their wives and children; niece Andrea, her husband and children. Preceded in death by parents, Carroll and Lucy McEathron.
