Annie J. Mestas

Annie J. Mestas, 78, longtime La Junta resident passed away June 23, 2014 at her La Junta home. She was born on April 13, 1936 to Samuel & Delia (Andrada) Miller in Roy, New Mexico.


Annie was taught her elementary school years at home on their ranch in La Cinta Canyon, NM. Then moved to Colorado where she attended Junior High at Newdale school, located between Rocky Ford and Swink. She later attended Rocky Ford High School until her Junior year. Graduating from La Junta High School class of 1955.

Annie worked at Newberry’s 5 for years; Otero County Clerk’s Office for 20 years; and the Ft. Lyon Veterans Administration Hospital for 12 years. Annie was a longtime member of the Upper Room Fellowship.


She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John A. Mestas, Sr. of the La Junta home; son, John A. (Kathy) Mestas, II of La Junta; grandchildren, Samuel Mestas, Jill Stoker both of La Junta; Jennifer (Ross) Netherson of Las Animas; Joshua (Nichole) Stoker of Ft. Hood, Texas; Shannon & Tasha Mestas both of Denver; daughter, Diane (George) Homm; grandchildren, Nathan, Josiah, Collen, Melanie all of Burlington, CO; numerous, great-grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy Miller of Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, James, daughter, Debbie, and grandson, Caleb Medley, USMC.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Memorial service will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Upper Room Fellowship with Pastor Paul Simon officiating.
