Avelino James “Boney” Lopez, 65, went home to the Lord on May 1, 2017 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta. He was born on November 9, 1951 in La Junta to the union of Demetrio & Sabina Lopez.
Avelino retired from the Pueblo Chemical Depot after 42 years of service, he was employed as an Electronics technician where he worked on Inertial Guidance Systems, Pershing Missile and an Intrusion Detection System technician. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, having served in the US Navy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Anna; son, Carlo (Crystil) Lopez of Ordway; four grandchildren; sisters, Frances (Nacho) Terrones of Crowley; Lupe (Pete) Rodriguez, Cora (Enrique) Cruz, Molly (Rudy) Martinez all of Pueblo, CO; Margaret (David) Nelson of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arguruelio “Delo”, Crisant “Chris”, Siferino “Sifer” Lopez and sister, Sabina “Vera” Sanchez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., both services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in Ordway with Father Paul Ekeh officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Lyon National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. in Ft. Lyon. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
