Barbara Cecelia Mendoza

Barbara Cecelia Mendoza, 75, passed away May 4, 2014 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in La Junta on November 22, 1938 to Dennis & Deluvina Whatley.


Barbara was a devoted wife of 38 years to Jose Mendoza. She liked to help those in need, loved flowers, and gardening. She loved her 6 dogs and her many birds. Barbara worked at the Migrant Council for 15 years. She taught special needs children and was well versed in sign language. Barbara will be greatly missed.


She is survived by her husband, Jose Mendoza; sisters, Stella Gonzales, Jennie (Joe) Rocha, Gloria (Joe) Bencomo, Barbara (John) Guerrero, Margaret Becerra; brother, Frank (Eleanor) Whatley. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis & Deluvina Whatley; sisters, Lucy Sandoval & Dolores Ortega; brothers, Ernest, Willie, Joe & Joseph Whatley.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
