Beulah Mae Hunnicutt

January 21, 1928 — December 28, 2015

Beulah Mae Hunnicutt, 87, passed away December 28, 2015 at the University
Park Care Center
in Pueblo. Beulah was born on January 21, 1928 to Roy & Verla
(Hazelton) Kreiger in Utleyville, Colorado.
She married Ewell E. Hunnicutt on June
23, 1947 in Aztec, New Mexico;
he preceded her in death on December
3, 2009.
 
Beulah Mae was around five years old when her father was
killed by lightening while he was hoeing in a field east of Kim. They then
moved to Pritchett for a short time. She started school there then they moved
to Kim. She started 1st grade in 1935 and got to be in the new
school. She graduated in 1947. Beulah and Ewell made their home in Kim until
1953. Ewell joined the State Patrol in February of 1953 and Beulah worked for
Mountain States Telephone in Pueblo
which is now AT&T. They lived a short 9 months in Pueblo
before Ewell was transferred to Trinidad in November of
1953 and Beulah transferred to Mountains States in Trinidad
as well. They resided in Trinidad until May of 1955.
Times were improving in Kim so they moved back in May of 1955. Ewell drilled
wells and they also bought a few cattle. Beulah worked at the Kim
High School in the Office for
several years. In May of 1966, Ewell & Beulah decided to adopt a baby
girl.  On July 11, 1966
they picked up their four month old infant daughter, Pamela Ann.

In 1972 the couple bought Ewell’s dad’s ranch so they could
be closer to their cattle and raise their daughter in the country. Due to
declining health Ewell and Beulah moved to La Junta on August 29, 2009 and resided there until his
death. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Martin;
grandchildren, Alisha & Hannah Martin, Bo Brodrick and T.C. L’Ecuyer;
great-grandchildren, Trenton and Tayra L’Ecuyer; nieces and nephews, Andrea
(Spike) Burrows, Dollie (Les) Garrison, Kenny (Sharon) Goodrich, Bob (Dorothy)
Jones, Donna Pearce, Jim (Karen) Slavens, Dean (Judy) Slavens, Clarence (Joyce)
Mayo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister, Ruby Kreiger,
brothers, Levi and Bill Jones, sisters, Pearl Geist, Elizabeth Slavens,
Florence Goodrich, nieces, Louise Brown, Dolores Barthalomew, Joyce Ann
Goodrich, and Sheryl Stevens, and nephew Billy Jones.
 
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial
contributions to be made to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice direct or through the
funeral home.

Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 31,
2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bob Swift, Ret.
officiating.
