Billy Deatherage

July 19, 1932 — August 25, 2015

William "Billy" Deatherage, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 25, 2015 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 19, 1932 in Des Moines, New Mexico to Jasper & Beulah (Nichols) Deatherage.


In his younger years, Billy was a Boy Scout that helped raise money for the Statue of Liberty that stands in the La Junta City Park. Billy worked at Cranson Dairy, Jeffers Pharmacy, Santa Fe Rail Road and CF & I Steel. He will dearly missed by his family and friends.


Billy is survived by nieces, great-nieces & nephews, Sherry (John Chambers) Page of La Junta and children, Lindsay Birchfield, Erin Hope Ehrlich, & Jacob Ehrlich, Debra (Rick) Olberding of Florida and their children, Jeff, Jon, & Rebecca, Kathy (Chuck) Schultz of Illinois and their children, Christopher Coonfield & Kenny Coonfield, and Patty Matthews of La Junta and children, Richard & Jennifer; nephews, great-nieces & nephews, William (Tanya) Matthews of Florida and children, Crystal & Richard, and Michael Matthews of La Junta; sister, Irene Bamber; and brothers, John Deatherage & Donald Deatherage. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosalea Matthews and his nephew, Richard Matthews.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Ken West of the Crowley Community Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
