Blevyns James Brown

January 5, 2007 – October 15, 2023

Blevyns James Brown, 16, of Ordway, CO went to be with Jesus on October 15, 2023 near Sugar City, CO. Blevyns was born in a snowstorm on January 5th, 2007, to Jeb and Gayla Brown. He was the fourth of six children blessed to the Brown family. He spent his early years growing up west of Fowler, CO before moving to Ordway, CO, where he resided until his passing. Blevyns truly embodied the meaning of a Crowley County Charger, and was known by all for his passion and school pride. If he wasn’t cowboyin’, you could always find him in a CC cap or shirt.

Blevyns was a friend to all; known for his larger-than-life personality and orneriness. Many can attest to his selflessness, whether it was reaching out to a sick friend, sticking up for someone in need, or boldly leading his football team. Along with his personality, his good looks often unexpectedly attracted much attention from young children and elderly women.

He seemed to excel at most anything he put his hand to; whether it be hunting, fishing, sports, schoolwork, or tying calves. The list could go on forever. Blevyns received a varsity letter in football for two years. He had the second highest quarterback ratings in the state of Colorado in 2022, throwing only one interception his sophomore year, and the team was league champs in the same season. In basketball, he received two years of varsity letters and led the team in cherry picks. His basketball team was district and regional champions both years that Blevyns played. He received varsity letters his freshman and sophomore year in his favorite sport, baseball. He was lead off hitter and played pitcher, catcher, shortstop, and center field. According to “Coach-Dad” (in Blevyns’ words), you could play him anywhere. Sophomore year, he was named honorable mention All-Conference, and his team finished tied for the top spot in the Sante Fe League, making it to the sweet sixteen.

As his Junior year rolled around, Blevyns had high aspirations of playing college baseball upon graduation. Blevyns’ “never give up” attitude drove him to spend hours upon hours hitting off of the tee, working to perfect his swing. When asked what he wanted to do when he grew up, he would simply answer, “I just want to play baseball.” Blevyns lived his life to the fullest, so much so that in the last two days of his life he tagged a nice antelope buck and led his football team to a homecoming victory, throwing three touchdowns.

Blevyns is survived by his grandparents: Jim and Wanda Brown of Brenham, TX and Gail and Millie Allen of Timpas, CO, his parents: Jeb and Gayla Brown of Ordway, CO, siblings: Jayla Brown, Leilani and Nick Aguilar, Byars, Julia, and Bodey Brown; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and teammates.

The funeral service will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Crowley County High School Gymnasium in Ordway, CO with Pastor Cody Cochran of Bethel Assembly Anson, TX officiating. Blevyns Brown will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta, CO, at 2:30 p.m.
