Bruce Place, 74, passed away on May 8, 2017 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He was born on September 16, 1942 in La Junta, Colorado to Robert & Grace (Bay) Place. He married Katherine E. Hunt on August 7, 1966 in La Junta.
Bruce graduated La Junta High School with the class of 1961. He worked for the La Junta Tribune Democrat for 45 years and retired in 2004. He was the high school statistician for football, basketball, and baseball for many years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bruce loved sports and was an avid Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Rockies fan.
He is survived by his wife, Kay of the La Junta home; daughter, Patty (Dave) Venem of Rocky Ford; grandchildren, Ashley and Cody Venem both of Rocky Ford; brother, Bernard (Jean) Place of Woodland Park; Sister, Myrna (Mark) Courtright of Edgewood, NM; numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father & mother-in-law, nephew and numerous aunts & uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Ron Skorick of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
