Burna Dean Stamps, 89, of Pueblo and formerly of Fowler passed away on May 11, 2017 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. She was born on December 3, 1927 in Clarks, Louisiana to Roy Rupert & Alma (Meyer) Stamps.
Burna was schooled in Childress, Loco and Wellington, Texas and graduated high school in 1947 from Yoder-Miami High School. She started working with Mountain Bell on November 18, 1947 in Fowler, as a telephone operator and left there as Chief Operator moving to Denver where she worked in different jobs throughout the company until she retired in October of 1982, with 35 services of service. She also worked as a clerk at Woolworth’s and at the Union Printers Home in Colorado Springs and of course she helped out on the family farm throughout her life.
Burna was an accomplished artist and painted beautiful oil painting that she shared with family and friends. She also was a photographer and in later years she excelled in adult coloring with her keen eye for detail and color. Her other hobbies included fishing, hunting and she loved her time in the outdoors. She loved her home, cooking, canning, and working in her yard and her pets. She also really enjoyed her Thunderbirds and she’d hand wash them at the farm in her BVD’s having to duck out of sight a time or two when company came.
She is survived by her siblings, I Jane Gray of Pueblo; Charles “Chuck” Arthur Stamps of Portland, Oregon; Sidney Ray Stamps of Longmont, CO; Wesley Wayne Stamps of Pueblo West, CO; Edwin Jefferson Stamps of Canon City, CO; also survived and loved by her nieces & nephews and their families and her many friends that became like family to her through the years as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Roy “Junior” Rupert Stamps, Jr., Carl Everett Stamps, and Inez Thelma Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fowler United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Blackburn officiating and Chaplain Karen Burnham of Vista Pueblo Towers co-officiating.
