Carl Edward Avara

Carl Edward Avara, 82, passed away June 8, 2014. He was born July 25, 1931 to Oscar and Virginia Avara in La Junta, Colorado. He was raised in the La Junta area and ranched most of his life. He married Esther Mae Lower on February 3, 1952 and had 52 happy years of marriage with her.

Carl was a dedicated husband and father and was full of life. Ranching was his first love but over the years, he also owned a restaurant and butcher shop, was a truck driver and an oilfield welder. Carl had many stories to tell from family history to ranching stories to tales of his adventurous life – he even had a couple short stories published in the Western Horseman Magazine in 1968. He and his family moved many times including a short time in British Columbia, Canada but ultimately settled back in the La Junta area after retirement.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Ann in 1965 and his wife, Esther in 2005, and his sisters, Ellen White and Doris Johnson. He is survived by his son, Jesse (Rose) Avara and daughter, Connie (Tim) Sipes; three granddaughters, Jennifer Avara, Christina (Levi) Arcaira and Cheryl Avara; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Noah; and his sister Betty Alexander.

As per Carl's request there will be no services.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
