Carroll D. Cannon

May 28, 1933 — December 28, 2013

Carroll Cannon was born May 28, 1933 to W.T. "Spud" and Rosalea "Rose" Cannon. A true La Junta native, Carroll graduated from La Junta High School in 1951.

He went on to attend the University of Colorado where he was a proud member of the Herald Trumpets in CU’s 100 Man Marching Band. During his summers off he worked for Wiswell’s Creamery. After a yearlong romance he married Norma Dawley on June 3, 1956. At that time he was employed as the manager of Hendrie and Bolthoff where he learned the wholesale parts business. In his position as manager he was encouraged to join the Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the JC’s he was very active in the La Junta community.

In 1969 he joined the crew of La Junta Valley Oil as a Service Manager. He quickly worked his way into becoming a partner through his strong work ethic and reputation for being a man of his word. He would remain at Valley Oil as a respected business man in La Junta until 1992.

He chose to retire to the work he loved and had known all his life farming and ranching. He used his ingenuity to improve the irrigation system on the family farm. This brought him notoriety in the farming and ranching community as he was the feature story in the May 1995 edition of Colorado Rancher and Farmer.

He was a loving family man and is survived by his wife Norma, Son, Micheal (Shirley) Cannon, Daughters LuAnn Cannon, and Melody Cannon (Mark Glass) 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
