Charles “Bub” Autry
March 13, 1933 – October 17, 2023
“Leave it better for the next generation.” The man who said this, Charles “Bub” Autry, has passed away at age 90.
Bub was a cowboy in the truest sense, a historian, a family man, and an inspiration to all that knew him. Born and raised in Colorado, Bub came from a long line of hardworking homesteaders.
He built a successful ranch from scratch, proudly served in the military, raised three kids, and showed his many grandkids and great grandkids how to live a good life.
If you’re looking for a way to honor Bub, consider doing what he did. Decide what you want your legacy to be and take action everyday to achieve it. Bub wanted to leave it better for the next generation. And so he worked hard.
He showed up for ball games, celebrating wins and giving a few wise words upon losing. He traveled across the country to visit family and friends. He picked up the phone, talked, and remembered every detail of the conversation. He organized photos, took copious notes, and carefully catalogued the family history, knowing that the roots we grow from are vitally important. He shared his belongings, his land, and his knowledge generously. He believed in second chances and continuously improving.
Though Bub is no longer with us, his legacy lives on with the countless many who were inspired and touched by his gracious, wise, and loving heart. May we all strive to live a life that is as full and complete as Charles “Bub” Autry’s was.
Per Bub’s request there will be a graveside service at 10 am on Sunday, October 29th at the Higbee Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta.
