Charles Hunt “Chuck” Flakes, 62, went to be with our Lord and Savior on his birthday. He was born on October 21, 1960, in Pueblo to Claude Flakes and Doris Edwards. Chuck was one of ten children and was known to be spoiled by all.
Chuck made La Junta his home in 1978 where he attended and graduated from La Junta High School in 1979. There he met his high school sweetheart Debby Medina. They were married on October 30, 1982, and through their union had two daughters, Sharee and Stephanie.
Chuck’s hobbies included boxing and martial arts training. He was athletic, able to do standing back flips, and was a very skilled dancer. He was recognized by Star Search for break dancing, pop locking, and his famous robot dance. He taught his skills to peers and children throughout the community. His love for music and dance continued throughout his life.
Chuck worked many jobs such as landscaping, cutting down trees (he was a skilled climber), the Livestock, and the Pickle Plant.
Chuck loved and cared for his family very much. He was always supporting his girls at school events cheering them on. He was the fun dad and loved to laugh with his daughters. They would often watch funny movies together, dance, jam out to music, take cruises around town, and host parties with Chuck as the DJ for every occasion. He was a grandfather to Jeremiah and Jazaliyah Flakes. He was overjoyed with his grandchildren. He was very proud dad and grandfather.
Chuck had a tremendous love for music. He liked his music loud and with a lot of bass. He loved to record and mix his favorite songs, free style rap, and put together sound systems. He had an outstanding knowledge when it came to rewiring stereo systems and creating surround sound speakers. He would help friends put stereo systems in their cars. Music was more than a hobby; it was an everyday life for him and his family.
Chuck was a big Denver Broncos fan. He also loved Kung-Fu and old western movies. Comedy was a favorite of his. Chuck loved to laugh. He was known to crack a joke just to see people laugh and smile, whether you were a friend or a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went. He lit up the room with laughter. He had an amazing sense of humor and a big heart. He is going to be deeply missed by so many. He was truly a legend in our community, and in our hearts.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Sharee Flakes, Stephanie Flakes; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jazaliyah Flakes; ex-wife, Debby Flakes; siblings, Claude (Lorraine) Flakes, Deloris Flakes, Dorothy Flakes, James Flakes, Alfred Flakes, Cleveland Flakes, T Rose (Tommy) Flakes and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Flakes and Doris Edwards; sisters, Gloria Flakes and Ella Mae Flakes.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
