Charles David Wallin

Charles D. (Chuck) Wallin, 75, of La Junta, passed away suddenly Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. He was hospitalized Thursday, March 27, following a heart attack.
Mr. Wallin was born April 6, 1938 in Gaylord, Minn., the son of Milo and Ann Wallin. He grew up in Gaylord and graduated from high school in 1957.


Following high school he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Social Work. In 1966, Mr. Wallin graduated from West Virginia University with a master’s degree in Social Work. His doctorate in education was from Nova University, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.


Mr. Wallin and family came to La Junta in 1972 where he had accepted a position with the Mental Health Center in La Junta. Then in 1975 he went to work at Colorado Boys Ranch as administrator and later was moved up to executive director.


In 1987, the Wallins moved to Monte Vista where he opened his own private practice. He and another clinician opened a drug addiction center, Addiction Family Resources in South Dakota. At the time of his death he was the CEO of the business.


Before coming to La Junta Mr. Wallin worked with the Lutheran Social Services, Lutheran Children's Home and was Welfare Director for Black Hawk County, Waterloo, Iowa. He was a Dale Carnegie Instructor and Joint Commission Surveyor.


In his spare time he enjoyed camping, hunting, skiing, motorcycling and woodworking.


Mr. Wallin is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the La Junta home; sons, Steve (Cindy) Wallin of La Junta; Scott (Sheila) Wallin of Pueblo; Todd (Olivia) Wallin of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Ashlee (Adam) Wisemon and Elizabeth Wallin all of Pueblo, Renee Wallin and Charlie Wallin of Tucson, AZ; his sister, Mary (John) Theurer of Staples, Minn.; and his first wife, Helen Wallin of La Junta; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Mary Ella) Christian of Tombstone, AZ, Ron and Carole Christian of Montrose and Ernest (Miok) Christian of Pueblo.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Ann Wallin, sister, Nancy Grove and brother, Milo Wallin.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.





Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 1st at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Lutheran/St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Seventh and Raton. Officiating will be the Rev. Mary Hendricks. Visitation will be today, Monday, March 31, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
