Charles O. Jones

Charles Otis (“Chuck”) Jones, 81, of La Junta, Colorado, died on May 19, 2014.


He was born on May 22, 1932 in La Junta, CO, to Otis R. and Lois (Worden) Jones. He was a graduate of La Junta High School, Otero Junior College, and the University of Denver. He married Jo Ann Jenkins on September 30, 1956. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2011.


He was also preceded in death by his parents, and niece Denise Thomas of Albuquerque, NM.


He is survived by his children, Dr. Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Jones of Los Alamos, NM, Charles Randall “Randy” Jones of La Junta, and Catherine Lynn “Cathy” (John) Davis of Avondale, CO; granddaughters Jessica and Julianna Davis of Avondale, CO; sister Gale (Elton) Thomas of Albuquerque; nephew David Thomas of Albuquerque; sister-in-law Linda (Alan) Root of La Junta; nephew Aaron (Shalaine) Root and their children Lilaneah and Trevin of Thornton CO; niece Jennifer (Jeff) Jackson and their daughter Ashleigh of La Junta.


After college graduation, he served as a counter-intelligence officer in the United States Army, stationed in Fairbanks, AK. Later, he worked for various businesses in the La Junta area, including the AT&SF railroad, General Credit, Colorado Bank & Trust, and South Swink Water.


He was a Koshare Chief, Eagle Scout, Boy Scout leader, little league baseball coach (17-1), a Koshare Key man, and the proud father of an Eagle Scout.


His favorite hobbies included travel, especially to museums and battlefields with his son, woodworking, stained glass, sailing, and flying.


There was cremation. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, or to the La Junta Senior Center, 114 E. 2nd Street, La Junta, CO 81050, or to another charity of your choice.


Peacock-Larson Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.
