Clifford attended and graduated from Cheraw High School in 1948. He was a member of the East Holbrook Mennonite Church.

Clifford was always busy some of his history included working with his father, brother & sisters on the farm as a teenager. After graduating high school he went to work at the State Hospital in Topeka, Kansas from there he worked in Denver processing chickens. Eventually coming back home to work with his brother Melvin raising turkeys in Cheraw, then getting married to his wife Carolyn and moving into the Headrick farm house, working on the land and raising his family; as if the farm wasn’t enough he also worked at the Holly Sugar Factory in Swink, then the American Crystal in Rocky Ford, Western Foods in La Junta, then he obtained his Diesel Mechanic License in 1981. His work was more a hobby than a job; he was always fixing and rebuilding things for himself and others.

He raised and bred many horses that he loved; spend many weekends riding and attending rodeos with family. He had a sly orneriness and had a great sense of humor. He always enjoyed visits from his grandchildren on the farm and laughing at their expense.
