Clifford Grant Walter

February 2, 1944 — January 16, 2016

Clifford Walter, 71 passed away on January 16, 2016 at his
Manzanola home. He was born on February 2, 1944 in La Junta, Colorado to J.G
(Grant) & Elizabeth (Richardson) Walter. He married Mary Stouffer on August
16, 1975 in La Junta. To this union was born two sons, Clifford Edward and
Andrew James Walter. He was also blessed to have four grandchildren to enjoy in
his later years.
    He attended
school in Manzanola, graduating in 1962, he also attended OJC graduating in
1964 and then transferring to CSU in Fort Collins where he graduated in 1967
with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in agricultural education. Upon graduation,
he had a teaching job secured, but the love of the farm brought him home where
he continued to farm until his retirement. He also raised cattle and enjoyed
tending to them. He loved to hunt, especially big game and was able to be
present when his grandson Lane got his first bull elk. He enjoyed many hunting
trips with his sons, grandson and friends. He loved helping his grandson
Brenden with his chickens and garden and then going to cold stone creamery for
ice cream. He loved helping his granddaughters with whatever they were involved
in-horses more often than not. He enjoyed attending all the sporting events and
activities his boys and then his grandkids were involved in.
    He had been a
member of Horse Creek Grazing Association for many years and served as
president for a time. He was a member of the Manzanola school board for 8 ½
years, having served as president for 4 years. He served on the West Otero Soil
conservation board for 12 years, having served as president for 5 or so years.
He has been a member of Crowley County Water Association for several years. He
had been a member of Arkansas Ground Water Users Association for 8 years. He
was a hunter education instructor for many years.
    He and Mary were
fortunate to have taken “road trips” with her Mom to the east and west coasts,
and places in between in later years.
    He is survived
by his wife, Mary of the Manzanola home; sons, Eddie (Jill) Walter, Andy
(Lindsay) Walter, grandchildren, Brenden, Lane, Avery, and Ainsley Walter;
brothers, John (Sally) Walter, J.L. (Nancy) Walter, and Dan (Robin) Walter;
sisters, Dixie (Bob) Yergert, Darlene Walter, Polly Walter, Betty Ramsey, Peg
(Leroy) Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Ann & Meril Craig of Oregon; also
numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles survive. He was preceded in death by
his parents, in-laws, Sam & May Stouffer, Joe & Gretel Hackel and
brother-in-law, George Hackel.  
    In lieu of food
and flowers, donations may be made to the Crowley County FFA chapter to
establish a memorial scholarship in Clifford’s memory, direct or through the funeral
home.

arrangements.
 
 

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 21,
2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the River of Life Fellowship with Reverend BJ Ballard of the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Fowler
officiating. Interment will follow at the Olney Springs Cemetery.
