Clyde M. Scott, Sr.

January 23, 1928 — April 10, 2013

Clyde Marshall Scott, Sr., 85 of La Junta, Colorado, passed away on April 10, 2013, at the AVRMC Nursing Care Center. He was born on January 23, 1928, to Klip and Pearl Holder Scott in Charleston, Missouri. He grew up in the Sikeston, Missouri, area along with his seven brothers and sisters. On June 3, 1953, he married Flora Loretta Pennington.

He joined the Navy in early 1946 and served aboard the USS Antietam, CV 36, in the South Pacific. While in the Navy he attained the rank of EM3 before being honorably discharged. Before enlisting, he had worked at an auto parts store in Missouri. In his youth he was interested in auto mechanics and nearly anything else mechanical. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked in Missouri at a local gas company and later as a baker.

Clyde moved his family to Colorado in 1957, and he went to work for the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Rocky Ford, where he was employed for the next 23 years. After leaving Coca Cola in 1981, he was self-employed and ran Clyde's Refrigeration until his retirement.

Clyde loved his family, his work and the people he met over the years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and bowling. He was also a fan of boxing and wrestling and old television westerns. He was a member of the Rocky Ford Church of Christ.

He is survived by his sisters, Dola Thurman and Betty Shaver of Sikeston, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Johnny Melton of Valrico, Florida; his children, Clyde M. (Kathie) Scott, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David Joe Scott of La Junta, Colorado, Judy (Kurt) Menges of La Junta, and Susan (David) Malott of Swink, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, his son, Kenneth Scott, and his siblings, J.B. Scott, Bealer Scott, Jessie Scott, Nellie Melton, Leonard Scott, who died in infancy, and Laverne Scott, who died in childhood.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, with final commendation services to be held at 12:00 noon at the Fort Lyon National Cemetery.
