Dave Gearhart

Dave Gearhart, 78, of Rocky Ford went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. He was born on December 5, 1935 to Carl & Emma (Simpson) Gearhart in Omaha, Arkansas. He married Peggy J. Kenagy on April 3, 1955 at the Swink United Methodist Church in Swink, Colorado; she preceded him in death on February 25, 2009 after fifty-three years of marriage.


Dave retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 42 years; he started as a Telegrapher and finished as an Engineer. He also was an accomplished home builder, building three homes. Dave will be missed greatly by all that knew him.


He is survived by his son, Randy (Laurie) Gearhart of Peyton, CO; Daughter, Deanne (Michael) Scheffe of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Stacie (Craig) Weitzel of Phoenix, AZ; Chris (Ricole) Scheffe of Phoenix, AZ; Karen Scheffe of Brooklyn, NY; and Matt Scheffe of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Madasen, Ethan, & Andrew Weitzel and Berkley Scheffe; brother, Gus Gearhart of La Junta; sister, Faith Burke of Boulder, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Carman & Pat Gearhart, and his sister, Dorothy West.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Swink United Methodist Church, 5th & Powars, Swink, CO, 81077 direct or through the funeral home.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Funeral services will be Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Swink United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Dudley officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8.
