David Leslie Lacy was born on May 14, 1933 to Leslie Elihu Lacy and Edna Carson Lacy on the homestead at Two Buttes, Colorado with his four older sisters.
David attended school at the Star School House nearby and later graduated from Lamar High School and Lamar Community College.
David entered the Army and was stationed in San Antonio, TX. While there, he met Margarita Sarabia and the couple married on November 22, 1956. David then was transferred to Germany where their Son, Leslie Lacy was born in Heidelberg, Germany.
Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, David attended and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Daughter, Rosalinda Lacy was born in Boulder. Colorado. David completed his doctorate at St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1965. The young family moved to La Junta to establish his dental practice.
Dr. Lacy volunteered his time for several years at the Clinica Evangelica Mam at San Juan Ostuncalco in Guatemala in conjunction with the La Junta Presbyterian Church and Rotary Club. On these trips he did dental procedures and also repaired many Cleft lips on young children while there. In 1974 on one such trip, Brenda Lacy Erwin was adopted from Nicaragua at 15 months of age.
David married Lupe Aragon in 1992 and he was blessed with another son, Henrique Aragon.
David and Lupe retired to Logan, New Mexico in 2004. They enjoyed time together, water sports, writing, and painting. David's joy was teaching his grandchildren to water ski. David and Lupe traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America. This included several dental missions and many winters in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
David and Lupe enjoyed daily swims and frequent walks in Puerto Escondido, even on his last day when he died on 2/21/2014.
David is survived by his loving wife Lupe Lacy, twin sisters Irene Riley and Elsie Wilson as well as his children, Leslie Lacy and Jane Lacy of St. Francis, KS; Dr. Rosalinda Lacy and Randall Korinek of La Junta, CO; Brenda Lacy Erwin and Ed Wiker of La Junta, CO; and Henrique Aragon and Vanessa Aragon of Colorado Springs, CO. Grandchildren include, Jacob, Greg, Ben, Tanner, Matt, Erica, Alison, Damaris, Quentin, Justin, De Vaughn and Jaiden.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Adopt-a-Village international, c/o Maggie Holway, 923 N. Sheridan Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80909 direct or through the funeral home.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in La Junta at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8th, 2014.
