Deborah Ann Canaday

May 26, 1959 — December 8, 2022

Deborah Ann Canaday, 63, of La Junta was called home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 8, 2022. She is at peace following her courageous battle with cancer.

Debbie was born on May 26, 1959, in Florence, Colorado to Everett and Patricia (Harrow) Babb. During high school she met the love of her life John Canaday, Sr. and they were married on September 25, 1976, in La Junta. Shortly after being married John and Debbie moved to Germany with the United States Air Force where she had the first of three kids Leah Marie. After returning to the United States, they were stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix, Arizona, then Biloxi, Mississippi where they had their second child John Wesley before returning to La Junta to make their home and have their third child Nathan Mack. Debbie was a stay-at-home mom to her three children and a loving wife and daughter. Debbie was a member of the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle and spent many years helping with AWANA and teaching the youth. She loved the Lord!

Debbie loved spending time outdoors and making memories with her family. You could find her going on trail rides, hiking, taking nature pictures, helping John in the shop, scrapbooking, going to bluegrass festivals, shopping or following her grandchildren to their events. Debbie was always up for an adventure. You could find Debbie supporting her grandchildren at dog shows, school programs, rodeos, recitals, 4-H events, Jiu jitsu, or just playing on the floor with them. Grandma always had a hug and a snack for her grandkids.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, John Canaday, Sr. of the family home, her daughter, Leah Meister and grandchildren, Gavvian and Danielle all of La Junta; sons, John Canaday, Jr. and his wife Tiffany and granddaughter, Andi all of La Junta and Dr. Nathan Canaday and his wife Mallory and grandchildren, David, Caleb and Nora all of Guthrie, TX; her parents, Everett Babb and his wife, Mary of La Junta and Patricia Babb of La Junta; her brother, Randy and his wife Carrie of Colorado Springs; her Sister-in-law, Kathy Russell and her husband Ronnie of Concord, NC and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and her beloved dog, Sadie. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rick Babb; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Thomas & Rachel Canaday, brother-in-law’s, Thomas Canaday, Jr. and Bobbie Canaday.
