Delbert Kay Spencer

March 17, 1926 — November 4, 2015

Delbert Kay “DK” Spencer, 89, passed away on November 4,
2015 at the Pioneer Healthcare Center in Rocky Ford. He was born on March 17,
1926 in Ft. Collins, Colorado to John B. & Vere (Lutz) Spencer. He married
Dorothy “Dot” Burns on February 29, 1948 in Raton, New Mexico.

DK worked on the Santa Fe Railroad for many years. He enjoyed outdoor
activities such as hunting when he was younger, camping, and hiking.  He was active in Boy Scouts, and was the scoutmaster
in Rocky Ford for many years, he also enjoyed square dancing. He would announce
during square dancing while Dot taught square dancing. They were known as Dots
& Dels. DK loved spending time with his family and was known in Rocky Ford
as the man that had the talking pumpkin. In his spare time he would volunteer
for the Salvation Army and the food bank and meals on wheels.
 
DK is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” of the Rocky Ford
home; children, Joe Spencer of Charleston, SC; Susie Spencer of Rocky Ford; three
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, J.B. (Patty) Spencer of
Alpharetta, GA; his sister, Donna (John) Wilcox of Charlotte, NC; also survived
by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter-in-law,
Elisabeth Spencer.

 
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the
Salvation Army, 2639 Elizabeth, Pueblo, CO,
81004 direct or through the funeral home.
 

 
 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rocky Ford with Pastor Aaron Lockhart officiating.
