Derrick Isaac Ortega, 21, of La Junta, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 in La Junta. He was born Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in La Junta to George Ortega, Jr. & Christy Tarango.

Derrick was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated his whole life to his son, Mateo and his wife, La Teasha. He was deeply loved and cared for by his mother, Christy and father, Ron. His brothers think highly of him and of the man he had become. His grandmother, Bertha, was so pleased to know that he had welcomed a great-grandson in her life. Derrick was a hard-working man, and he strived for success. He was full of love and energy. He could make anyone laugh and smile without even trying. Derrick's smile could light up the room. He generated warmth and love. No matter the day or time. You could rely on Derrick to spring into action to help anyone. He had a very large circle of friends who appreciated his friendship and loyalty. Derrick was full of love and life. The one thing he loved more than anything was being a father. Mateo was his pride and joy, and he took his role as a father very seriously.

Derrick is survived by his wife, La Teasha Ortega of the La Junta home; son Mateo Ortega; mother, Christy Tarango of La Junta, CO; father, Ron Raso of La Junta, CO; brothers, Winter Solstice, Elijah Raso and Fernando Raso; grandmother, Bertha Moncada of La Junta, CO; father, George Ortega, Jr. of Swink, CO; siblings, Jazzlean Ortega and Richard Ortega; grandmother, Carmen Ortega. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, George Ortega, Sr.; grandmother, Lilly Raso; great-grandmother, Maria P. Vasquez; and uncles, Rodolfo Vasquez & Ignacio Vasquez; and his brother in-law, Gabriel Orosco.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick's Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
