Don Davis Mew, Sr.

Don Davis Mew, Sr., 89, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on December 22, 2016 at the Lexington Park Nursing Center in Topeka. He was born June 21, 1927, in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Charles Athel and Thelma Eleanor (Davis) Mew. He married Betty Jane Conty on April 10, 1948, in La Junta, CO; she preceded him in death on August 26, 2008.

He graduated from high school in Kansas City, MO. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. Don retired from the Santa Fe Shops in Topeka.

He is survived by his daughters, Georgia E. (Mark) Thompson of La Junta and Rebecca C. “Becky” (Paul) Honaker of Topeka; his sister, Georgia Eleanor (Jay) Ford of Tequesta, FL; ten grandchildren, Staci Jo Thompson, Sean David (Miki) Thompson, David Michael Mew Thompson, Jessica Honaker Barber, Gabriel Paul (Andrea) Honaker, Lauren Eleana (Ian) Honaker-Hunter, Laura Camille Bryan, Kerye Ann Jackson, Shelly Marie Hendrix, and Heather Jane Hendrix; nineteen great-grandchildren; and close friend, Dee Renyer of Topeka. He was also preceded in death by his parents, wife and three children, Don Davis Mew, Jr., Tracey Joseph Mew, and Elizabeth Lynn Mew; father-in-law, Leonard Burnett; and a brother, Bobby Burnett.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at11:00 a.m.at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
