Donnie R. Johnson

Surrounded by his family, Donnie R. Johnson, 81, of La Junta was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on November 26, 2014.


Donnie was born in Kim, CO, on June 7, 1933, to Jack and Edith Johnson of Kim, CO. He married Betty “Joy” White in 1952, and raised their family while farming in the Arkansas Valley. Donnie was a man of strong faith; and an equally devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Happiness for Donnie was sharing his time with family; be it at the dinner table, on the tractor, or along the side of a mountain river with a fishing pole in his hand.


Donnie is survived by his three children, Kenny “Skip” (Denise) Johnson, Pam (David) Morgan and Tanya (Jim) Baird; grandchildren, Jeramiah (Erica) Johnson, Katie (Shaun) Hughes, Josh (Melanie) Morgan, Jered Morgan, Sarah (Matt) Vandiver, Tiffany (Brian) Baird-Gross, Kevin (Andrea) Baird, Ashley and Thomas Baird; and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by brothers, Danny (Donna) Johnson, Bennie (Grace) Johnson; sister-in-laws, Dottie (Bob) Bryan and Delita (Norman) Fleischacker; uncle, Lloyd (Loyce) Goodwin; aunt, Lois (Ernie) Love; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donnie is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Edith Johnson; wife, Betty “Joy” Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Enos and Bertie White; brother, Billie Johnson; and sister-in-law, Opal Davis.

The funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Community Church followed by graveside services at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.

Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
