Doris Irene Burns

Doris Irene Burns, 97 died Aug. 25, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Doris was born March 11, 1920 in La Junta, Colorado, the daughter of John and Helen Rupp.

She worked at Mountain Bell Telephone Company in the 1940s. On June 21, 1947, Doris married Tommy L. Burns in a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in La Junta. In 1953 Doris and Tom and their two daughters moved to Tucson, Arizona. Doris was a homemaker for several years and then her and Tom started an archery business in 1962. Doris and Tom operated Universal Archery & Sporting Goods together until Tom’s death in 1984 and Doris remained in business until 2002. After approximately 40 years, she closed the business and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she lived with her younger daughter, Cynthia.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Judith Young spouse Rob Young, Cynthia Stanford spouse Jerry Stanford, one Grandson Jeffrey Stanford spouse Rachel Stanford, and one sister Julia Grimes spouse Don Grimes.

Funeral services will be September 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
