Dottie May Hurd, 85, passed away on May 22, 2015 in Pueblo. She was born on May 8, 1930 in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of Charles W Carryer and Irene Grisso. She was a wonderful, loving mother, wife and grandmother who made a 30 year career out of caring for hundreds of children through foster care.
She is survived by her sisters, Dee Carryer of Pueblo, CO; Donna Hollis of Williamsburg, CO; children, Dennis (Linda) Armstrong of Zanesville, Ohio; Sharon Mckibbin of Beulah, CO; Karen (Ivan) Skolnekovich of Pueblo, CO; Dave (Sherri) Hollis of Lakewood, CO and Kevin (Melissa) Hurd of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as the foster children to whom she was a mother for days, weeks, months, years and to many, the rest of their lives. “Family is not the blood that runs through  our veins, but the love that flows through our hearts”  Dottie is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and soul mate, Roy V. Hurd, brother, Jack Hollis and her son, Steven Hollis.
Thank you for teaching us how to love and accept others for who they are. You are our foundation and strength. We love you.
The family of Dottie would like to thank: the staff at University Park Nursing Home, the staff at Heatherwood Assisted Living, the staff at Sangre de Cristo Hospice, the staff at Innovage, the staffs of both St. Mary Corwin and Parkview hospitals, the staff at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Services and Parkhill Christian Church.
Finally, a special thanks to Mike Smith for building Dottie’s coffin at her request.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Memorial services will be held at Parkhill Christian Church at 1401 E. 7th St. in Pueblo, CO at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015. There will be a potluck reception following the services.
