Dr. William Arthur Holm, 84, passed away on March 9, 2022, at his La Junta home. He was born on October 18, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William A., Sr. & Dorothy (Johnson) Holm. He married his high school girlfriend and from that union they had three children, Staci Winter Holm, Bill Holm, Jr. and Courtney Autumn Holm.
William started playing hockey at the age of 11. He played on ponds and outdoor wooden rinks. He graduated in 1955 from South High in Minneapolis, MN. He went to medical school in Minneapolis in 1967 he took an internship at the Hennepin County Hospital. He worked at Hennepin County Hospital, Langloide Medical Center and the Vail Medical Center. William also played and coached in several men’s hockey teams where he had many friends though out his life. He played until the age of 76, playing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and enjoying that cold beer afterwards. He worked at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for 38 years retiring in July of 2020.
After breaking his shoulder in the 80’s he took an art class and became an artist who loved to paint in La Junta where he painted several beautiful paintings.
He remarried on March 11, 2004, to Soraya “Sam” Messer of Carlsbad, NM, where he helped raise daughter, Kristy Messer also with grandchildren, Eric, Faith, & Matthew Messer and Mark Vasquez. He enjoyed fishing, barbequing and sharing his wife’s passion of animals.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Inspiration Field with Pastor Steve Hicks of the Cheraw Baptist Church officiating.
