Duane David Castaneda

June 5, 1950 — July 4, 2015

Duane David Castañeda, 65, was called to the lord on July 4, 2015 at his Cheraw home. He was born on June 5, 1950 in Denver, Colorado to Santos and Margarita Castañeda.  Duane attended Denver Public schools and at the age of 19 enlisted in the Army where he served four years with a tour in Vietnam.  After moving with his family to Rocky Ford in 1986, he worked for the Arkansas Valley Community Center (n.k.a Inspiration Field) and then moved on to work for the Colorado Boys Ranch in Human Resources for 19 years.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Mary Frances (Ponce), his son David Castañeda of Denver , two daughters Tara (Oscar Olague) Castañeda of La Junta and Christina (Michael) Maurer of Fort Collins, three grandsons, Dillon Castañeda-Stevens, Dallas and Donivan Olague and his amazing dog Lil Bear.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and two brothers, his in-laws, Rafael & Juanita Ponce and his son-in-law, Brandon Stevens.

In lieu of flowers the family would like those wishing to make memorial contributions to the Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, Colorado, 81050 direct or through the funeral home. 

Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Smith of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post, #8.
