Ella Mae Yochum Burns

February 22, 1941 — October 22, 2015

Ella Mae Kirk Yochum Burns, peacefully passed away from this life on October
22, 2015, and went to receive her reward in Heaven, she was at her Rocky Ford
home surrounded by her family. Ella Mae, affectionately known as
"Granny", was born on February 22, 1941 to Garland and Thelma (Cason)
Kirk in Muskogee, OK. Ella Mae lived 74 years, but in those years, she packed
more living, joy, laughter, and tears than anyone could have. Ella Mae lived in
California, Kansas, Wyoming, and Colorado. So many places, so many friends made
along the way. Music was a special part of her life and was a talent given to
her by God. She spent her life playing and singing gospel music from her heart
for the glory of her Lord, and now she is singing with the angels. Her greatest
joy was her precious grandchildren whom she had an active part in raising and
spoiling.
Ella Mae was a beautician for many years and had her own beauty shop in
her home in Porter, OK. She was a bookkeeper at many sale barns, worked as a
clerk at Safeway, was a bank teller, and cleaned many houses. She greatly
enjoyed creating flower arrangements.
Ella Mae is survived by her loving husband, Edwin Burns of the Rocky
Ford home; sons, Danny (Beverly) Yochum of Cheraw; Darrek Yochum of Rocky Ford;
grandchildren, Dustin (Tish) Yochum of La Junta; Shanna (Zane Leonard) Yochum
of Karval; Kristen (Yancy) Birch of Grand Junction; Bailee and Drew Yochum both
of La Junta; Darrek Yochum Jr;. Caiden Ganguish of WY; Cody Mclsaac of Rye; great-grandchildren,
Shaelyn Elizabeth, Houston Buck, and Ella Jolie Yochum all of La Junta; Walker
Lee Leonard of Karval; daughters-in-law, Linda Leonard of Ordway; Ronda Yochum
of La Junta; sister and brother-in-law, Pat (Bill) Hutcheson; nephew and nieces,
Joe Wright, Janene La Judes, Jenny Grayham all of Tyro, KS. She was preceded in
death by her parents; first husband of 33 years, Buck Yochum; and sister, Zella
Gross.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests
donations be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050
direct or through the funeral home. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of God with Ed Kite of the First Church of God officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
