Ernest R. Mcfatridge

Ernest R. McFatridge died Friday, February 27, 2015 at Via Christie Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS from a brain aneurysm, after celebrating 55 years of life. A loving and dedicated family man, he resided for the last 14 years in Hutchinson, KS with his significant other Carolyn Hoover with whom he shared the last 17 years.

Born in La Junta, CO in 1959 to Thomas "Tom" & Eva McFatridge, he attended La Junta schools and had many fond memories of his youth spent camping, fishing, hunting and enjoying outdoor activities in Colorado. Ernie met Carolyn M. Montoya there and later married her on March 22, 1981 in Breckenridge, TX and had 3 children, Jason, Layle and Eliza with her. A lover of machines, electronics and cars, he moved his family to Texas upon embarking on a career in cable television. Most recently, he spent the last 8 years operating the Express Lube in Hutchinson.

Known for his knack for fixing things, he used his handiness to be helpful, and enjoyed serving his community by keeping them safe on the road. With a Midas touch, he was talented at any endeavor and excelled at sports, games, and any kind of competition. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his 2 grandchildren, Irie, age 9 and Alexa, age 6 and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

He is survived by his father Tom McFatridge, 79, and stepmother Kay, 76, of Rocky Ford, CO, his former wife Carolyn McFatridge, 53, son Jason, 35, daughter Layle, 33, daughter Eliza Wilson, 31 and her children Irie and Alexa all of Denver, CO. He is also survived by his significant other Carolyn Hoover, 40, of Hutchinson, KS and brother Tom McFatridge, 57, as well as his dog Rebel. He was preceded in death by his mother Eva McFatridge in 1991.
