Esperanza 'Esper"
Pequete, 92, of Rocky Ford died October
6, 2015 in La Junta, Colorado. A viewing will be held on
Monday, October 12, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00
p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, Colorado. Recitation of the Holy
Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday Oct.
13, 2015 and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford with Father Paul Ekeh officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
 
She was born January 2, 1923 in El Paso, Texas
to Juan and Ramona (Gomez) Reyes.
 
She married Joe Pequete
in 1945 in Raton, New Mexico. They recently celebrated their 70th
Wedding Anniversary.
 
Esperansa was a member
of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and
ironing. She was well known for making goat cheese.  She enjoyed being with family and friends.
She was very affectionate and will be remembered for her cheerful hugs and
kisses.
 
She is survived by her
husband of Rocky Ford and son, Jack (Inez) Pequete of Rocky Ford; granddaughter,
Brooke (David) Stengel and great-granddaughter, Allison.  She is also survived by her sisters, Adelina
Chaparro and Elsie Shipley; brother, Ernest Gomez and numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Joey Pequete, sister,
Carmilita Reyes and brothers, Gilbert Reyes, Armando Reyes, John Reyes, Richard
Reyes, Henry Reyes, and nieces and nephews.
