Evelyn Spangle-Amedei

May 24, 1919 — September 10, 2016

Evelyn Spangle Amedei, 97, of Canon City passed away on September 10, 2016 at the Skyline Ridge Nursing Home in Canon City. She was born on May 24, 1919 in Long Canyon, south of La Junta to Jessie & Addie Corbin. She was raised in the Higbee – Long Canyon area and attended both the Adkins and Adobe schools. She rode a horse to school with her sister and brother.

She married Bill Spangle in 1936 and together they raised five children. In 1968 they moved to Canon City where she was very involved with the Golden Age Center and the Red Bow Tie Band. She lost Bill in 1984 and remarried Tony Amedei.

“Grannie” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and they enjoyed many good times together. She loved quilting, taking care of her yard, and growing beautiful roses, traveling, also loved music and dancing at the Canon Senior Center until she was 93. She had made many beautiful quilts that each one of her grandchildren received, and that they will treasure forever.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (Mary Lou) Spangle, J.D. (Deliah) Spangle, Dorothy (Ron) Follett, Wilma (Lonnie) Jackson and Orval (Alta Davis) Spangle; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; 16 great, great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Bill Spangle, second husband, Tony Amedei; sister, Hazel Reed; brother, Nelson Corbin; grandson, Lon Rae and his wife, Darla Jackson.

Funeral service will be Friday, September 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Evangelist Terry Smalling of the Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at the Higbee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Higbee Cemetery Fund, c/o Rita Bay, 34510 County Road KK, La Junta, CO, 81050 or to the Golden Age Center, 728 Main Street, Canon City, CO, 81212 direct or through the funeral home.
