Flora Esquibel, 79, of La Junta passed away on December 20, 2020 at Parkview Medical Center, of complications from COVID-19. She was born on March 4, 1941 in Vaughn, New Mexico to Julia and Domingo Chavez.
Flora was a loving wife to Emilio and mother to Manuel “Manny” DeLeon and John Esquibel. She cherished her family and was blessed with 2 grandchildren, Aidan and Ezra both 9. She loved spending time with and caring for her family. She loved people, having company, and visiting with friends and family. She was a life-long resident of La Junta and had many friends and relatives.
She was a long-time member of the Mariachi Coro de Santa Maria group and active in the La Junta Catholic Parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick. Flora worked at the Capri Hotel, the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and at Columbian Elementary.
She is survived by her sons, Manuel “Manny” DeLeon of La Junta, John (Amy) Esquibel of Pueblo West; grandchildren, Aidan and Ezra Esquibel; siblings, Sadie Sandoval, Stella Torres, Maggie (Eulojio) Medina and Ramona Chavez, all from La Junta; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Julia Chavez, husband, Emilio Esquibel, and siblings, Domingo “Junior” Chavez, Luciano “Al” Chavez, and loving sisters, Gloria Chavez and Dorothy Gutierrez.
She will be greatly missed and remembered as the loving mother, sister, aunt and friend that she was.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Flora will be cremated with the internment of the ashes on a later date.
