Fred L. Korinek

Fred Louis “Corky” Korinek, 89, died July18,2017 at his home on the ranch outside of Ordway with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on July 28, 2017 at the River of Life Church, 411 E. 9th St. in Ordway, CO.

Corky was born June 4, 1928 in Ordway, Colorado to John H. and Lucy L. Korinek. He grew up in Ordway and graduated High School there in 1947. During his youth he worked helping his parents with their ice and coal delivery business. He started a construction company in 1948 and then was drafted in 1951 and served in the Marine Corps for a tour of duty until 1953. In 1952 he married Marie June Avara and to this union five children were born. Denise Lin 1954, Gerald Wayne 1956, Cheryl Ann 1957, Randall Bruce 1959 and John Fred 1968.In 1996 Corky married Peggy Farr and of this union he gained two more children, Rhoda Lee Blakley and Randy Ortega.

Corky loved participating in community events and worked at making his home town and community a great place to live. Besides helping start and continue to support Crowley County Days, he served 4 years on City Council, 2 years on the Fire Department, 8 years as VFW Commander and 1 year district Vice President of Colorado Jaycees. He was a member of the American Legion, Crowley County V.A. officer and life member of the VFW.

During his lifetime he had several businesses including a trout farm and gravel pit. His construction career included building 40 houses and/or businesses and 26 metal buildings. He worked as a rural mail carrier with the US Postal Service for 17 years.

Corky is survived by his wife Peggy of Ordway; his children, Denise Trainor of Ordway, Gerald (Norma) Korinek, Cheryl Beach of Fort Collins, Randall Korinek and Rosalinda Lacy of La Junta, John (Jolie) Korinek of Simla, CO, Randy Ortega of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rhoda Blakley of Billings, MT. Proudly he has 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Corky was preceded in death by his parents John H. and Lucy L. Korinek, brothers, Willard, Granville and John A. Korinek, his son-in-law Alvin R. Blakley and his Great-granddaughter, Samantha Grace Trainor.
