Gary Carl Hirschler
June 17, 1951 – March 24, 2024
Gary Carl Hirschler was born on June 17th, 1951. He passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 72. He was born to Elvis Gilbert “E.G.” and Martha (Ehrlich) Hirschler in Rocky Ford, Colorado.
Gary has lived in Rocky Ford for the majority of his life and graduated from Rocky Ford High School with the class of 1969. He attended drafting school in Denver after high school. Gary met his wife, Lois, in North Dakota. They celebrated 50 years of togetherness in June 2023. Together they had two children, Eric in 1976 and Kea in 1983. Gary worked as a contractor and built many houses around the Arkansas Valley. Gary spent his whole life in the construction business, starting at the age of 9 with his father. He did everything from residential and commercial remodeling, to building homes and custom projects. He had a passion for art and metal work, as can be seen all over his home. Over the years, Gary sponsored may youth summer recreational sports teams through Hirscler Construction Company. He never missed a sporting event or a performance by his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and he held on so long to be able to see them grow.
He is survived by his wife Lois of the family home, Eric and Tiffany Hirschler of La Junta, Kea and Jeremy Gutierrez of Thornton, brother, Ned and Nadine Hirschler of Cottonwood, AZ, and sister-in-law Millie Otten of Rocky Ford. Those who called him Papa were his grandchildren Bradley, Hailey and Jonathan Hirschler and Jaiana and Kambria Gutierrez. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and son Travis Lee Hirschler.
Per his wishes, Gary’s ashes will be scattered at a later date. Gary wants everyone to know that “The Bear is now in hibernation.”
